Liverpool go within 1 point of 4th-placed Manchester United

Liverpool's late dash for a Champions League spot is picking up speed after a 1-0 win against Brentford
Liverpool

(Football News) Liverpool defeated Brentford 1-0 at Anfield to put pressure on Manchester United. The Merseyside club have managed to win their last 6 games in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp made 2 changes to his starting XI against Brentford. Diogo Jota came in as a straight slot from Luis Diaz which was always coming as the Columbian had just recovered from a major injury. Jordan Henderson dropped to the bench and was replaced by Cody Gakpo which changed the system to a more attacking one.

Liverpool scored in the 13th minute as Virgil Van Dijk assisted Mohamad Salah who scored for the 3rd game in a row. The goal was Salah’s 19th in the Premier League and 30th in all competitions. In a seemingly under-par season, the Egyptian has managed to reach the 30-goal mark which shows how good he has been ever since joining Liverpool. Bryan Mbeumo looked to have scored just before half time but the linesman raised his flag for offside. Liverpool had a couple of good chances to get the 2nd goal but it ended at 1-0. Brentford failed to create any clear-cut chances in the 2nd half and only had 1 shot on target throughout the game.

Manchester United’s loss at West Ham means that Liverpool are now just 1 point behind but the Red Devils do have a game in hand. At one point it did look like top 4 was impossible but Jurgen Klopp’s men have turned things around. As soon as players started to come back from injury there was a change. Modifying Trent Alexander-Arnold’s position to a midfielder when in possession has been a brilliant move. Their next game is away from home against Leicester City who are playing for survival.
