(Football news) Barcelona have confirmed an injury to Robert Lewandowski which is likely to keep him out for 2 weeks which is catastrophic news for the club. Barcelona’s season has been a rollercoaster so far. In the league, the Blaugrana have been pretty consistent as they have lost only 2 games and are top of the table. In Europe they have truly struggled as they finished 3rd in their UCL group and were relegated to the Europa League. They did recover from that by winning the Spanish Super Cup and staying on top of La Liga. In the Europa League playoffs they were knocked out by Manchester United and that has started a tricky period.

Barcelona are already missing Pedri, Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele due to injury and now Robert Lewandowski is injured. In the next league match against Valencia, Raphinha, Gavi and even manager Xavi are suspended. They are 7 points ahead of Real Madrid after the loss against Almeria. Lewandowski is likely to miss the Copa Del Rey match against Real Madrid along with league games against Valencia and Atlético Madrid.

The crucial La Liga clash against Real Madrid will be touch and go. Barcelona sold Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer and Memphis Depay in January which means that there is no other striker in the squad. Ansu Fati was used as a striker when Lewandowski was previously injured but the Spaniard is also injured.

This is a season defining period for Barcelona as they have suffered back to back losses. Xavi needs to find a way to come back from this and get back to winning games otherwise they will have to be satisfied with only the Super Cup this season. This is a golden opportunity for Ferran Torres who is likely to take Robert Lewandowski’s place. It hasn’t gone to plan for the Spaniard since his move from Manchester City. Xavi will be relying on him a lot especially in the games against Real Madrid and Valencia.
