(Football news) Chelsea lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur away from home. The loss was their 3rd in a row and it is now 6 games without a win for the Blues. Chelsea have won just 2 games since the World Cup concluded and during that time they have only scored 6 goals. The pressure on Graham Potter and performance against Tottenham Hotspur summed up his time at Chelsea so far. Chelsea had just 59% possession but didn’t create many chances whereas Tottenham Hotspur were much more precise and direct with the ball.
In the 45th minute there was an incident which resulted in Hakim Ziyech getting a red card for putting his hand on Emerson’s face but the referee changed it to a yellow after consulting VAR. Oliver Skipp scored the opening goal just seconds after the 2nd half started. Harry Kane doubled Tottenham’s advantage as he scored from a corner.
It was a very ordinary performance by Chelsea which is something that has been going on for a while. Everything that has been happening comes down to their activity in the January window and it seems that signing too many players has caused imbalance in the squad.
Graham Potter has come out and indirectly compared his current situation to that of Mikel Arteta a year ago. The distinct difference is that Arteta’s Arsenal had a style of play and their issue was consistency which has been rectified now. Chelsea under Potter looks clueless and there has been no game where the Blues have been great in.
Potter would deserve time if there was some spark or a sign that things would turn around. However the manager hasn’t shown enough to demand more time. The club may stick to him till the end of the season as there is nothing left to play for this season but if things don’t improve then he may not be there in 2023/24.
