Fernando Carro, the CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, stated that he “can’t promise” that Florian Wirtz won’t be acquired by Bayern Munich, a competitor.

At Leverkusen, Wirtz has shown himself to be one of the Bundesliga’s most promising players, and in 2023–2024, he was voted the German top league’s Player of the Season.

In all competitions, the 21-year-old led Leverkusen to a German league and cup double under Xabi Alonso with 18 goals and 20 assists.

Leverkusen’s first-ever title was secured by Wirtz’s hat-trick against Werder Bremen; the campaign was finished without a single loss.

European football’s elite are watching his growth at the BayArena, with Bayern Munich having been public in their appreciation of the player. Inquiries about Wirtz, who has a contract through 2027, have also been made by Real Madrid, Barcelona, and several other Premier League teams.

Fans of Leverkusen are worried that Wirtz will end up at Bayern, despite Carro’s statement that he “can’t promise” the trade won’t occur.

The Spanish player did, however, state that Leverkusen will be hesitant to allow key players to join a direct competitor. He cited the club’s determination to hang onto Jonathan Tah’s value throughout the summer despite Bayern Munich’s interest.

In remarks obtained by Fabrizio Romano, Carro responded, “I can’t promise anything; you never know in football.” The question was if he could ensure Wirtz would not be traded to Bayern Munich.
