Despite having alternative choices, Leclerc is prepared to “push” for a new Ferrari F1 agreement

Despite having choices elsewhere on the grid, Charles Leclerc has stated that he is prepared to "push" for a long-term Formula 1 future at Ferrari.

(Motorsports sports) The Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc current deal expires at the conclusion of the 2024 season, but neither Ferrari nor the driver have shown any urgency to work out an extension. This delay, coupled with a dismal season at Ferrari that fell short of expectations, led to rumors that other teams were interested in hiring Leclerc.

Since there might be openings by 2025, the leaders Mercedes, Aston Martin, and Red Bull have all been considered as viable choices for him. Leclerc has made it clear that his top aim is to realize his dream of winning the F1 title with Ferrari, and that even the tiniest possibility to do so would be enough to keep him from leaving, despite the fact that he is undoubtedly considering alternative options.

Charles Leclerc said it was only normal for drivers to consider their opportunities elsewhere in an exclusive interview, but that did not change his commitment to his present team. When presented with the possibility, “of course, I think every driver has considered their various options,” he said. “However, I adore Ferrari dearly. More than everything else, becoming a world champion with Ferrari is my primary goal and dream.

Therefore, I will push to stay here at least if there is a remote chance that it will happen. While acknowledging the team’s struggles this year, Leclerc stressed that this is not a reason to think things cannot go better. “I think everyone on the team can agree that we are not satisfied with the current state of affairs because we want to win,” he stated.

I adore Ferrari, though. I feel at home there. I’m at a loss for words because there hasn’t been much conversation at all outside of a few jokes here and there. Leclerc brushed down any suggestions that the delay in starting contract talks was a cause for concern since he recognized that Ferrari needed to focus on becoming faster. I just think it’s probably not the top priority right now, not for me personally nor for the club, he remarked. “Right now, we’re simply concentrating on what matters most. “The goal is to quickly regain our competitive edge. Then, we’ll decide. I love Ferrari, though, and it feels like home.

Charles Leclerc thinks it is unrealistic to expect Ferrari to close the entire gap to Red Bull before the campaign is over, despite the fact that it has made considerable progress in figuring out the consistency issues that have hurt it on Sundays. He does believe that Ferrari can put itself in a position to finish the year as the best of the rest, ahead of Mercedes, McLaren, and Aston Martin, which are its primary competitors.

“I think the realistic target, at least the one we want to fix ourselves, is to be the strongest team after Red Bull and to close the gap to Red Bull,” the athlete stated. “Then, for 2024, there is no doubt that everyone’s goal is to regain the lead and compete against Red Bull. “In all honesty, and this is just my view, I think we won’t be able to catch Red Bull before the year is through. However, the goal will be to at least be ahead of Mercedes, Aston Martin, and McLaren. We shall aim for this.
