Lalchand Rajput appointed as UAE’s head coach

(Cricket news) Lalchand Rajput, the former Indian international, has been appointed as the new head coach of UAE. He has been signed for a term of three years and will take over the reigns from interim head coach Mudassar Nazar.

UAE has a League 2 tri-series coming up, against Scotland and Canada late in February. The series is a qualifying competition for the 2027 ODI Cricket World Cup. It will be Rajput’s first assignment as the head coach. UAE are coming off a T20 series defeat against Afghanistan and the side under their new coach will look to make a mark in the qualifying tournament.

Rajput has previously been with the Indian side when they lifted the T20 World Cup title. He was also the coach of Afghanistan back in 2017, when the side gained its Test status. His last assignment was as the head coach of Zimbabwe were he spent a period of 4 years (2018-2022) with the side.

“UAE has emerged as one of the stronger Associate Members in recent years and the players have put in some good performances in both ODIs and T20Is,” Rajput said in a statement from the Emirates Cricket Board. “The current batch is exceptionally talented and I look forward to working with them and further harnessing their cricket skills.”

“We are confident that under his coaching UAE men’s cricket will flourish further,” Mubashshir Usmani – ECB general secretary said. “I also want to take this opportunity to thank Mudassar Nazar for his stellar work as the interim head coach.”
