Antigua and Barbuda Falcons introduced as the latest CPL franchise

(Cricket news) The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons has been unveiled as a new team in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The franchise will replace Jamaica Tallawahs, who decided to exit post the 2023 season of the league. The Jamaica franchise had been owned by Florida-based businessman Kris Persaud, whose Worldwide Sports Management Group will now own the new Falcons franchise.

Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, hosted the launch event for the new team. This is also the ground which will serve as the team’s home ground for the forthcoming CPL 2024 season.

The Tallawah’s owners expressed their inability to operate the side sustainably last year. They rather chose to start a new squad based out of Antigua. It has been reported that CPL has bought the Tallawahs franchise from its previous owners and has committed itself to set up a team based out of Jamaica by 2025, making the tournament a seven-team event.

“We are brand new; we are here, we are ready… let’s get ready to play! The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons will bring a unique energy and vitality to the CPL. We are ready to fly high and conquer what is before us. We want to establish a winner’s culture within the team and also a culture of winning and success off the field – among every individual associated with this franchise and the amazing fans we will have at our special home base at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in lovely Antigua,” Persaud said.

CPL 2024 is scheduled to be played from the 28th August to 6th October. Antigua will host the league’s games for the first time in last 10 years. The final of the tournament will once again take place at The National Stadium in Providence, in Guyana.
