(Football news) With Kylian Mbappe’s current contract set to expire next summer, the Frenchman recently informed PSG that he would not be extending it. According to club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the striker “needs to sign a new deal” since the team cannot afford to lose the “best player in the world” for nothing.

Mbappe informed PSG in a letter last month that he had no intention of extending his contract, which expires in 2024. As a result, he may depart for free the next summer, which Al-Khelaifi is keen to avoid.

“My position is very clear. I don’t want to repeat it every time: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract,” Al-Khelaifi told reporters after unveiling Luis Enrique as the club’s new manager.

“We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free. We can’t do that. This is a French club.” president of PSG said.

“He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it’s not my fault. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, that’s very clear.”

After losing Lionel Messi to a free transfer, PSG will be desperate to maintain Mbappe given that he has finished as the top scorer in Ligue 1 for the past five seasons.

Messi, a seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, decided not to extend his contract in order to join Inter Miami.

After Macron declared he would work to ensure the forward remained in France’s capital, Mbappe added that the president had no say in his professional decisions.

Luis Enrique has been named as the next head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, the club has confirmed.

Following the dismissal of Christophe Galtier, whose departure was officially announced on Wednesday morning, the French champions have given the Spaniard a two-year contract to take over at Parc des Princes.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I’m delighted to be joining Paris in order to enjoy a new experience. It’s so exciting to meet new people, to live in this city, to learn a new language and, above all, to manage PSG.”
