(Football News) The love triangle between Kylian Mbappe, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid was so intense between July 2021 and April 2022. Mbappe asked PSG to sell him in the summer of 2021 and Real Madrid made a bid. The French club didn’t like Real Madrid’s approach as they thought that the bid was too low and the timing was wrong. PSG in the end didn’t even open negotiations with Real Madrid and kept Kylian Mbappe. That meant that Mbappe had an option to leave PSG for free. In the next 9 months, there was a flurry of rumors with the majority of them suggesting that Mbappe would be a Madrid player in 2022.

PSG directors and board members during the whole saga said that Kylian Mbappe promised them that he wouldn’t leave for free. There was a lot of pressure on the Frenchman as the club was adamant to keep him. The new contract offered by PSG was too good to turn down and Kylian Mbappe was also given a few privileges in regards to the sporting project. Mbappe ended up signing a new contract for two years plus an option for another one. Real Madrid were left furious as Mbappe had verbally agreed to join the club.

Since then Florentino Perez has taken a few jibes at Kylian Mbappe. He said after Mbappe’s renewal, “I don’t want this Mbappe. The last one is not the same Kylian we wanted. I wanted the real one,”. Perez was in constant contact with the player which is why there was a sense of betrayal. Perez also said that “He must be regretting his decision already”. There were talks about how Mbappe would never play for Real Madrid because of the way he handled the situation but now things have changed. A few days ago Perez was asked by a fan if he would sign Mbappe to which the Real Madrid president replied “Yes, but not this year”.

Real Madrid signing Mbappe for free in 2024 was always on the cards but now a new door has opened. Kylian Mbappe has sent an official letter confirming to PSG that he will not trigger the option to extend his contract till 2025. The letter has left PSG furious as Mbappe had time till August to decide and he also didn’t need to send a letter as he could’ve just informed them normally. The letter got leaked which is causing all these rumors which has angered PSG. Real Madrid reportedly have all the things needed to sign Mbappe this summer.

PSG’s position is that either Kylian Mbappe renews the contract or leaves for a high fee this summer. The option of him leaving for free next season isn’t even considered a possibility in Paris. PSG will definitely do everything in their power to sell Mbappe to any club other then Real Madrid. Mbappe however dreams of playing for Los Blancos and he will also try to force a move. PSG’s strategy and failure especially in Europe is likely to be the reason that Mbappe is keen on leaving. They are sacking managers after just one season which isn’t ideal for any club.

Kylian Mbappe may have renewed thinking that he will stay and win the Champions League with his hometown club PSG. To lead his club to their maiden UCL would mean a lot to Mbappe, more than winning Real Madrid their 15th UCL. Mbappe’s rival Erling Haaland has gone to Manchester City and broken so many records while winning the treble. Haaland is well positioned to win the Ballon d’Or this season while Mbappe isn’t even in the conversation. That may be a big reason that Mbappe doesn’t want to waste more time at PSG.
