Karim Benzema’s Real Madrid future under the scanner after recent speculation

(Football news) Real Madrid are expected to go shopping big in the summer transfer window. Kylian Mbappe is the big one who is heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu. In addition to the Frenchman, Erling Haaland is said to be on Madrid's radar as well.

With Vinicius Jr already thriving at the club, if Madrid sign Haaland and Mbappe then it will be difficult to fit Karim Benzema. The Frenchman's current contract runs till July 2023 and he has always been clear about his intentions staying at Real Madrid. Benzema has been Real Madrid's best player for nearly 4 years now and if/when Marcelo leaves the club, Benzema will be the club captain. The age factor definitely comes in at Real Madrid but Benzema is still scoring tons of goals for the Los Blancos and he is miles ahead in the La Liga top goal scorer charts. He is also the 2nd highest assist provider in the League.

According to reports in Spain, Karim Benzema has asked for an emergency meeting with president Florentino Perez to clarify his position at the club and his future after all the rumors about Haaland. From a Real Madrid point of view, Mbappe and Haaland coming to the club would be ideal and almost too good to be true. Having said that, it would be better if Mbappe comes this year and Haaland next year when Benzema's contract runs out.

If Real Madrid lose Benzema and Marcelo in the same year it will be a problem from a dressing room perspective. If the two captains leave then a certain leadership quality goes away. The reports of Benzema wanting to clarify things shouldn't worry Real Madrid or it's fans as Benzema is a true professional and wouldn't cause any unnecessary rift. Benzema has been a main advocate of Mbappe's arrival and Mbappe has also said that he loves playing with Benzema. Nothing will change the fact that the star striker is a legend at Real Madrid and also very important for the rest of the season.
