Juventus will play Genoa in Serie A

Ahead of their matchup with Genoa on Sunday, struggling Juventus have dropped out of second place in the standings after taking just six points from seven Serie A games

(Football news) While the Bianconeri let a lead slip in their previous match against Atalanta BC, their guests came close to salvaging a draw against Monza at home but ultimately came up short. Juventus was once in the running for their first Scudetto in four years, but after taking a fall recently, they are now 17 points behind league leaders Inter Milan. Last week’s events allowed AC Milan to pass them in second place.

Even though Atalanta rallied to take a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Andrea Cambiaso and Arkadiusz Milik, Teun Koopmeiners, a reputed transfer target for Juventus, finished his brace to enable Atalanta steal a point while Milan barely defeated Empoli.

In the process of winning just one of their last seven Serie A fixtures, Max Allegri’s men have been unusually open at the back, and the former clean-sheet specialists last kept any opponent goalless back in late January.

The Bianconeri have conceded twice in each of their last four league matches – the last time they did so for five games straight was more than 60 years ago – and only four teams have earned fewer points since the end of January.

Allegri’s future is still to be decided, and with several capable managers on the market this summer, his second spell in Turin is not sure to continue past the end of the season.

With both second place and the Coppa Italia still up for grabs, though, there is still plenty left to play for, so Juve will now aim to get back on track by extending their long unbeaten streak at home to Sunday’s visitors.

Genoa will now look to win their first league away game against Juventus in 20 attempts—of which at least 15 have resulted in defeat—after securing a passionate 1-1 draw in the rematch in December. Although they have only scored 0.6 goals per game on average, the Grifone would be apprehensive to visit the Allianz Stadium for that reason alone, but they have shown themselves to be a competitive team this year.

Though they had only lost three straight since making it out of Serie B at the first attempt, Alberto Gilardino’s team lost back-to-back league games last weekend for the second time since being promoted to Italy’s top division.
