Isco

(Football news) The last act of Isco’s career is not going well so far. After 9 years at Real Madrid the Spaniard ran out of a contract in 2022. He agreed a 2 year deal with Sevilla on a free transfer mainly because of Julen Lopetegui who had previously brought the best out of Isco with the Spanish national team. While his personal performances were good, the team was struggling and Lopetegui was sacked. Jorge Sampaoli was appointed as the manager and Isco’s game time significantly reduced. In a shocking turn of events the midfielder’s contract was terminated with the manager later stating that he didn’t meet the club’s expectations.

Isco spend the entire winter transfer window searching for a new club but there were never any concrete reports. He finally found a club in Union Berlin and agreed a deal. After completing the medical the negotiations broke down as according to Isco’s camp the conditions of the deal changed compared to initial discussions. The deal was officially called off when Union Berlin released an official statement “We wanted to have Isco in Berlin, but we have our limits. These were exceeded today, contrary to the previous agreement”. So there are clearly two sides of the story and there is no way to know who changed the conditions of the deal at the last minute.

Berlin are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga just 1 point behind Bayern Munich and they have strengthened their squad with 3 signings in January. The addition of Isco would’ve been a game changer but unfortunately for both parties the deal collapsed. Isco now is without a club after the January transfer window has ended but he is a free agent and could sign for a club in the coming days. At the age of 30 he needs a new club and he needs settle into the club quickly to make sure the end of his career is a smooth one.
