Ireland Wolves clinch the One Day series against Netherlands A with 5-wicket win in the series decider

OAK HILL, Wicklow – Ireland Wolves avenged Wednesday's loss and registered a series victory in the deciding third game of the series against Netherlands A at Oak Hill Cricket Ground in Wicklow on Thursday.

With the three-game series tied 1-1, Netherlands A skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and elected to bat first.

After an energetic start from the Dutch openers featuring a run-a-ball 29-run stand, Graeme McCarter got the first breakthrough, inducing an edge from Musa Nadeem (13) at the first slip to William Porterfield. After which the visitors struggled to sustain their innings and lost nine wickets for just 76 runs.

McCarter was the star performer with the ball, clinching 6-32 from his 9.5 overs, he was well supported by the  22-year old leg spinner Ben White who claimed 3-16 from 6 overs.

Man of the Match McCarter – who had 7 Irish senior caps to his name between 2011 and 2015 – continued his purple patch with the ball this week, bowling at consistent lines  to give the Dutch batters a hard time. The 29-year old’s series as a bowler ended with 9 wickets as he put forward his candidature for an international recall.

The Netherlands A side put up a below par total of 105 and although the Wolves lost five wickets, they looked comfortable throughout the chase.

Skipper Harry Tector scored his second half-century of the series with a 50 ball unbeaten 57, which was packed with 9 fours and a six. Fittingly it was Shane Getkate batting at the other end, when Tector hit 3 fours and the six from the final four deliveries of the game, as the Wolves sealed the game on 110-5 from 20.4 overs.
