(Football news) With their first victory in four games, mid-table Monza drew closer to the top half of the standings, while Inter edged past Hellas Verona to maintain their lead over longtime rivals Juventus.  

Winning their first game of the year at San Siro, Inter clinched the title of “Campioni d’Inverno” (winter champions). However, relegation-threatened Verona were defeated only by a Davide Frattesi goal in stoppage time.

After Lautaro Martinez leveled the score in the 74th minute, it appeared like the match would end in a 1-1 draw. However, Frattesi’s late goal secured his team’s first-place finish in the league after 19 games.

In addition, the Nerazzurri’s 48 points represent their highest total at this point in the season since 2006–07, while their outstanding goal differential of +35 establishes a new club record.

When Inter has led Serie A at the halfway point of the season on 10 of the previous 17 occasions, they have gone on to win the Scudetto; this time, however, it looks like they are in a two-horse battle with Juventus to win the championship.

After winning four straight games, Simone Inzaghi’s team fell a little by drawing with Genoa, but they swiftly recovered by defeating Verona. They now need to maintain their momentum against Monza.

After Inter Milan quick trip to their regional rivals, they will travel a great distance to Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana. After that, they will play Fiorentina away before facing Juventus in what might be a pivotal Derby d’Italia match the following month. 

Monza lost the rematch this season 2-0, with a brace from Martinez condemning them to defeat on the first matchday. Monza avoided defeat in both of their encounters with Inter last season, including a stunning 1-0 victory at San Siro.
