India announce 18-man squad for ODI series against Australia

KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel return to India's ODI squad
India Vs Australia

(Cricket news) After the Test series, India and Australia will play 3 ODIs. The series will be massively important in context of the World Cup coming up later this year. This is the last ODI series before the IPL starts and it is a big one. The 3 ODIs will take place in Mumbai, Vizag and Chennai. India have won their last 2 bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand 3-0 but this will be a much bigger challenge. There are no real surprises in India’s squad as the changes are as expected.

India’s squad:

Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, K L Rahul, Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (Vice-captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Jaydev Unadkat.

Rohit Sharma will be available for the 1st ODI due to family reasons. Hardik Pandya retains his place as vice captain and will even lead the side in the 1st ODI. Ravindra Jadeja is back after injury and given his performance in the ongoing Test he will be a massive asset to the side. K L Rahul and Axar Patel who missed the ODI series against New Zealand due to family reasons also return in place of Shahbaz Ahmed and KS Bharat who miss out as expected.

The surprising call-up is for left arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat. He recently returned to the Test squad and was impressive. His record in domestic One Days is very good but it is unlikely that he gets a game as there are 4 seamers ahead of him in the pecking order. Jasprit Bumrah is still injured and will only return to international cricket after the IPL. The Indian squad is pretty balanced as there are all types of players in the squad which is a good sign going into the World Cup.
