ICC announces the T20I team of the year, Surya named as the captain

(Cricket news) ICC on Monday (22nd Jan) announced the Men’s ICC T20I team of the year. The team features a lot of superstars from across the globe. Surya Kumar Yadav the star Indian batter has been named as the captain of the side. The team consists of a perfect mixture of youth and experience in the shortest format of the game.

The ICC T20I team of the year is greatly dominated by the Indians , starting with SKY who has been named as the captain. The team also includes young Indian talents such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh. Surya who is the number 1 T20I batter in the world was the third highest run-scorer of the year, his 733 runs came at a healthy average of 48.86 and a strike-rate of 155.95.

Jaiswal impressed with his intent up the order and some of his knocks which came against Australia and South Africa. Arshdeep and Bishnoi is a part of the side primarily because of the impact they have had on the game and the difficult situations in which they have bowled and performed well. While Arshdeep picked up wickets upfront, Bishnoi ensured reducing the run flow and taking important wickets at crucial junctures of the game.

Nicholas Pooran and Mark Chapman also made it to the side given their impressive performances throughout the year. Chapman ended the year as the sixth highest run scorer, whereas Pooran scored just 384 but they came at a healthy SR of 162.7 and most of his knocks had a tremendous impact on West Indies’ fortunes.

England’s Phil Salt also played just eight innings in 2023 but made brilliant impact, scoring 394 runs at a SR of 169 with two centuries. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza had another tremendous year with the bat as well as with ball, scoring more than 500 runs and picking up 17 wickets at a good economy.

Uganda all-rounder Alpesh Ramjani was the breakout star of the year. He ended the year as the leading wicket taker in the format, picking up 55 wickets at an exceptional economy of 4.77 and he also piled up 449 runs. Mark Adair and Richard Ngarava were the other players who also made it to the team on the back of successful year.
