Hyderabad FC and ATK Mohun Bagan share the spoils in a high scoring draw

(Football news) The clash between Hyderabad FC and ATK Mohun Bagan saw the fastest goal in Indian Super League history as David Williams scored in 12 seconds but a late strike by Javier Siverio ensured the Nizams moved on top of the table because of higher goal difference. Bartholomew Ogbeche scored the equalizer for Hyderabad FC in the 18th minute to make it 1-1 but an own goal by Asish Rai in the 64th minute gave Bagan the lead yet again. However, the two sides managed to secure a point each after Siverio managed to convert a loopy ball inside the box in the 90 + 1 minute.

Williams replaced Roy Krishna, who started on the bench and the team selection paid instant dividends as the 33 year old’s shot from outside the box went into the back of the net despite Hyderabad FC goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani getting a touch of the ball. However, the Nizams managed to equalize in the 18th minute after a blunder by Amrinder Singh who failed to keep hold of a simple catch and Ogbeche capitalized on the opportunity to score his ninth goal of the campaign. Amrinder then made another mistake by passing the ball to Ogbeche instead of clearing it but the 37 year old Nigerian could not make the most of the opportunity.

Just before halftime, Carl McHugh was forced to be replaced after suffering a concussion and was taken off the field in an ambulance. Hugo Boumous picked up his fourth yellow card of the season before the break, which means that he will miss out on the next match. Hyderabad FC tightened their defense in the second half and it almost paid off until David Williams dribbled past Asish Rai and crossed to Joni Kauko who headed into the back post after a slight deflection by Asish Rai in the 64th minute.

The Mariners tried to double their advantage as Liston Colaco almost scored from Williams’ reverse pass. Juan Ferrando introduced Roy Krishna in the 72nd minute as a replacement for Williams who had a fantastic performance. Just when it seemed that ATK Mohun Bagan were on the cusp of three points, Javier Siverio’s opportunistic strike in the 90 + 1 minute went into the back of the net, thereby ensuring the Nizams progressed to the top of the table ahead of Mumbai City FC.

Hyderabad FC will next face Kerala Blasters on Sunday, 9th January at the Tilak Maidan while ATK Mohun Bagan will take on Odisha FC on Saturday, 8th January at the Fatorda Stadium.
