After a season that left both players and supporters wanting more, Granada’s future is in jeopardy, whether they will finish in the Segunda or miss out on that coveted La Liga promotion. This will provide both sporting and financial obstacles.  The team’s prospects for the upcoming season are still uncertain, with important choices regarding who will join and, more importantly, who may leave still to be decided.  Although all five of the central midfielders have contracts, it is unclear what their responsibilities will be in the upcoming season.

 Three of the five players in the midfield lineup were involved in the relegation drama, while two more joined during Granada’s time in La Liga Hypermotion.

In 2024, Martin Hongla was brought in with the intention of avoiding the relegation rocks.  He established himself as a mainstay under each of the three coaches that took charge during the turbulent season, but his on-field performance was insufficient to match the size of his salary.  There was a brief glimpse of an escape last winter when a club in Central Europe made a bid, but it was quickly withdrawn.  If he decides to leave, maybe a new chapter awaits him in that sun-drenched region of the world thanks to his agent’s contacts in Middle Eastern football circles.

Another high-level newcomer, Gonzalo Villar, wowed with his technical prowess in midfield.  He is keen to stay with Granada despite the threat of relegation.  However, his high compensation is a barrier to closing the deal.  Although it requires some shrewd negotiating between his team and the club’s decision-makers, a long-term contract with alluring deferred payment terms would be the way to go.

After an unpredictable season, Manu Trigueros is currently nearing the end of his contract.  After being signed the previous summer, he had trouble getting started at first but eventually found his rhythm.  But his efforts are clouded by an altercation at El Sardinero that resulted in teammate Neva being sent off.

 Juanma Lendínez is a promising prospect who appears to be close to joining the senior squad.  Despite making his debut and staying close to the action during the year, he didn’t get any playing time under Pacheta.  The preseason this summer will serve as his trial to guarantee his spot.
