(Football News) Jordan Henderson has opted to terminate his contract and has now joined Ajax on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 33-year-old, who had moved from Liverpool to Al-Ettifaq last summer on a three-year contract valued at a reported £350,000 per week, expressed his departure on social media. Henderson acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but emphasized its necessity for himself and his family. He thanked the club and fans for their support during his tenure, expressing gratitude for the love he felt from day one.

In an interview with the Ajax website, the midfielder shared his thoughts, stating, “It’s been a difficult year or so for the club, both on and off the field, but that’s the same for me in the past six months. So hopefully, we can help each other come together and move forward, trying to be as successful as possible in the near future.”

Reflecting on the swift turn of events, Henderson expressed excitement about embarking on a new chapter and journey in his life and career. He conveyed his eagerness to be part of Ajax, stating, “Once I knew that there was an opportunity, I was overexcited and really overwhelmed that this opportunity was there for me. It was something that I wanted to try and make happen.”

Saudi Pro League CEO Saad Allazeez commented on Jordan Henderson’s departure, acknowledging it as a natural part of football. He expressed regret that things didn’t work out for Henderson but highlighted the mutual respect and support extended during his time, emphasizing that everyone involved had made efforts and no one was to blame.
