(Football news) With 25 points, the home team is now tied for second place in the table with Real Madrid, while Celta is in 18th place with just six points from their first ten games.

Girona’s performance in La Liga has been one of the biggest stories of the season so far. The Catalan giants have won eight, drawn one, and lost one of their ten games to accumulate 25 points, placing them second in the table and level with Real Madrid at the top of the standings.

This season, Michel’s team has barely faltered; their lone defeat came at home against Real Madrid at the end of September, and they bounced back magnificently from that loss.

In fact, Girona defeated Cadiz 1-0 prior to the international break. Then, on Sunday, they defeated Almeria 5-2. The Catalan team overcame a two-goal deficit to win the match, thanks to a brace from Artem Dovbyk, who now has five league goals this season.

The White and Reds are poised to make history this season as they are just in their fourth season at this level. Their highest finish to date has been 10th in both the 2017–18 and 2022–23 seasons.

Conversely, Celta has had a difficult season, managing just six points from ten games, and now sits in 18th place in the standings.

This season, Celta has one victory, three draws, and six losses in La Liga. They have also only scored 10 goals, which is among the lowest attacking totals in the division.

After moving up from Segunda Division for the 2011–12 season, Celta has been a fixture in Spain’s top flight. They concluded the previous season in a creditable 13th place. Girona’s performances and achievements this term have been amazing, but it will be very difficult for them to keep up this level and genuinely contend for the top four.

The season still has a ton of football left to play, but Rafael Benitez’s team is having trouble right now. They have lost their previous six league games and will go into this match fresh off a 3-0 home loss to Atletico Madrid last Saturday.

Though the two teams shared the points in a 1-1 draw when they last faced off in Vigo near the conclusion of the 2022–2023 season, Celta has won their last three La Liga games against Girona, including a 1-0 triumph in the comparable meeting last term.
