New Zealand women’s team to tour India post-World Cup

Following the current T20 World Cup final, the New Zealand women’s team will go to India for a three-match ODI series in Ahmedabad. The three matches are a part of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship 2022–25 and are scheduled for October 24, 27, and 29 respectively.

New Zealand was scheduled to visit for this series last year, but it had to be postponed because of the Indian team’s busy winter of 2023, which included a few one-off Test matches against Australia and England after the ninth WBBL finished.

New Zealand has won just 8 out of their 18 ODIs in this cycle and is currently ranked sixth in the 10-team IWC standings.

India has automatic qualification for the major event since they are the hosts of the ODI World Cup in 2025. The BCCI has chosen to hold the games in the recently constructed Narendra Modi Stadium in order to provide the women’s squad with as much exposure to venues as possible before the main event.

The top five teams in the IWC standings, excluding India, will advance to the main competition, which is scheduled for October–November 2025; the other four teams will need to qualify first.

Meanwhile, India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan quite comfortably by 6 wickets in their second league game at the T20 World Cup. After losing the first game to New Zealand, this game was a must-win encounter for the Indian side. India needs to win all their remaining group matches to give themselves the best chance to qualify for the knockouts. The biggest challenge for the Asian giants will be the Mighty Australians.
