Getafe set to play Villareal in LA Liga

On Saturday afternoon, Villarreal will go to the Spanish capital to take on Getafe with the goal of picking up just their third La Liga victory of the season

(Football news) The Yellow Submarine are now in 14th place in the table after only collecting seven points from their first seven league games of the current campaign, while Getafe are in 10th place with eight points.

Getafe has earned eight points from its seven league games so far this season by winning two, drawing two, and losing three. This puts them in 10th place in the standings going into the upcoming slate of games.

Only one point was earned by Jose Bordalas’ team in their first two games of the season, but they have since won two of their last five, defeating Alaves and Osasuna at home while suffering just two losses.

Getafe is coming off a 2-2 draw with Athletic Bilbao. The two times the host team lead at San Mames, the capital team came back, including a goal by Juanmi Latasa in the 83rd minute to tie the game.

Although the Deep Blue Ones have finished 15th in each of their last three league campaigns, they were eighth, fifth, and eighth between 2018 and 2020, indicating their potential.

When the two teams faced off in the comparable matchup last season, Getafe and Villarreal drew 0-0 for a sharing of the points. Getafe hasn’t defeated Villarreal in Spain’s top division since January 2019.

It’s fair to say that Villarreal’s 2023–24 season hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts after finishing fifth in La Liga last year, seven points behind the top four.

The team’s early-season struggles led to Quique Setien’s dismissal as head coach earlier this month. Pacheta was appointed head coach till the end of the season.

In their seven La Liga games this season, Villarreal has won twice, drawn once, and lost four times, earning them seven points and moving them to the 14th spot in the standings.

Including a 2-0 loss to Panathinaikos in the Europa League on September 21, the Yellow Submarine have only won one of their previous six matches overall. They have also lost two of their past three games.

The previous weekend saw Villarreal draw 1-1 at Rayo Vallecano in the league, but they came into this game coming off a 2-1 home loss to table-topping Girona, with the visitors coming from behind to win at Estadio de la Ceramica.
