UCL Round of 16 Draw: Sergio Ramos homecoming, Atletico Madrid to face Manchester United

(Football news) The Round of 16, Quarterfinals and Semifinals will be two legged. This will be the first season after the away goals rule was abolished which would mean that there will be a lot more penalty shootouts than previous seasons. The final will be held in Gazprom Arena, Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Real Madrid are currently flying with 10 wins in a row in all competitions. They topped their group with 5 wins out of 6 and are also 8 points clear at the top of the La Liga table. The Los Blancos are silently going about their business and are definitely one of the favorites for the UCL trophy. They will face PSG who finished 2nd in their group behind Manchester City. Sergio Ramos will return to the Santiago Bernabeu to play against Real Madrid along with other former Madrid players Achraf Hakimi, Angel Di Maria and Keylor Navas. Kylian Mbappe, who publicly expressed a desire to join Real Madrid last summer, will be playing against his dream club. PSG, despite all the luxury signings have struggled at times this season having to rely on Mbappe to break them out of jail.

After a difficult injury plagued season, Liverpool are back at the level they showcased when they played back to back UCL. Liverpool won all 6 of their games in the 'Group of death'. They are 2nd on the Premier League table, having lost only 1 game so far this season and are drawn against Inter Milan. The reigning Italian champions finished 2nd in their group as they lost both their games against eventual toppers Real Madrid. They are also top of the Serie A at this moment in time which makes the tie very interesting.

Last season's runners-up Manchester City have once again topped their group ahead of PSG. They are also top of the Premier League table. City are set to face Sporting CP who qualified 2nd in their group ahead of Borussia Dortmund on the basis of head to head.

Bayern Munich are going about their business this season as they won all 6 of their group stage games and are also top of the Bundesliga table. They will face RB Salzburg who are playing in the UCL knockouts for the first time.

Juventus who are struggling in their first season since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo will face Europa League champions Villarreal who qualified for the knockouts on the day by defeating Atalanta. Unai Emery's team have had a difficult season in the league so far as they sit 13th on the table. Juventus edged Chelsea in the last matchday to top the group and are currently 7th on the Serie A table.

One of the big ties is La Liga Champions Atletico Madrid against Manchester United. Atleti haven't been able to replicate last season's form so far as they are now 13 points behind Real Madrid in the league; they also needed a win against Porto in the last matchday along with help from Liverpool to make it to this stage. United have massively improved under Ralf Rangnick but they are still not at their very best. Atletico Madrid is one of Ronaldo's favorite opponents as he has scored 25 goals in 35 appearances against them including 4 hat-tricks.

Defending champions Chelsea conceded a last minute goal at Zenit on the last match week which dropped them to 2nd in their group. They will face French champions Lille in the last 16. Lille topped their group ahead of Wolfsburg, Sevilla and RB Salzburg.

Dutch champions Ajax will face Benfica. Ajax won all 6 of their group stage games thanks to Sebastian Haller who scored in every single one of those. Benfica on the other hand qualified for the knockouts ahead of Barcelona.
