Real Madrid comfortably win Madrid Derby; Barcelona’s downfall continues after draw at Osasuna

(Football news) Real Madrid continue cruising away to the La Liga title as they now sit on 42 points after just 17 games. Atletico Madrid have now lost back to back league games to make 3 losses in total. Barcelona's season gets worse as they now sit 16 points behind League leaders Real Madrid at 8th spot.

Osasuna came back from behind twice to hold Barcelona to a draw at El Sadar. Xavi is missing the services of a lot of first team players and has had to rely on youngsters. He also has had to play some players out of position. Despite all that they did manage to take the lead in the 12th minute as La Masia graduates Gavi and Nico combined to score. Osasuna almost immediately responded with a goal from a set piece. In the second half another La Masia player Abde Ezzalzouli regained the Blaugrana's lead. The Catalan side were struggling to protect the lead and eventually crumbled in the 86th minute as Ezequiel Avila scored the equalizer. Xavi has a week to prepare for his next league match against relegation-threatened Elche where they have to get 3 points.

Madrid was once again white as Real Madrid won the El-Derbi. Atletico Madrid started the game well on the front foot pressing high and allowing Toni Kroos and Luka Modric no time on the ball. The game turned on its head when Karim Benzema scored in the 16th minute from a brilliant counter attack. The Rojiblancos lost control of the game and were run into the ground by Madrid's Holy Trinity midfield. Benzema, who just returned from injury was replaced at half time presumably as a precautionary measure. Joao Felix and Thomas Lemar were subbed in at half time to try and change things. Felix had an immediate impact as he created a few chances and was Atletico's best player just 5 minutes after replacing Antoine Griezmann.

Just when Atleti were on the front foot and looked threatening, Los Blancos scored once again through Marco Asensio. Real Madrid just had 3 shots on target compared to Atletico Madrid's 6 which doesn't show how dominant Real Madrid were. Thibaut Courtois was named man of the match for pulling off a few good saves especially towards the end. There were parts of the game where Diego Simeone's men were just chasing shadows because of the control and movement of Real Madrid. Vinicius Jr who assisted both the goals received a standing ovation from the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid's next game isn't till next Sunday where they play host Cadiz. Atletico Madrid on the other hand have a very tough away fixture against 2nd placed Sevilla.
