Italian legend Andrea Pirlo is set to become the manager of Karagumruk

(Football news) Former Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo could make a return to management with Turkish club Fatih Karagumruk. The Istanbul-based outfit, who have the likes of Fabio Borini and Emiliano Viviano as they finished eighth in the Turkish Super Lig last season but have ambitions to reach Europe this season. Reports in Italy suggest that they are the favourites to hire Italian legend Pirlo, who hasn't taken another coaching job since being sacked by Juventus in May last year.

The Istanbul-based outfit was promoted to the Turkish top-flight in the 2019-20 season and have defied all odds they would struggle by finishing eighth in both campaigns since. This was a personal defeat for Pirlo to be sacked out of Turin after only one season as he has been without a job since May 2021. Pirlo doesn’t need the money, after all, he was one of the best players in the world for quite some time, but too much free time does not look good on his CV. Now Pirlo is on his way back, but not where we expected it to be. The 43-year-old has previously been linked with a lot of Serie A clubs, but according to Fabrizio Romano, Pirlo's contract is more or less in place.

Playing in Süper Lig, Karagumruk finished in the 8th place this season, 8 points from the Europa League place in 4th place. Andrea Pirlo won the Coppa Italia in his first season as the manager of Juventus but still got sacked by the Juventus hierarchy. Pirlo did well in his first season as a rookie manager as he was only fired by Juve because of their high standard at the club. Some fans will call for his return after the disappointing campaign under Allegri, which didn’t even deliver a trophy this season. However, the Bianconeri will probably keep faith with Allegri this season, and Pirlo’s best bet remains to find another club in the process.
