Gennaro Gattuso is set to become the new manager of Valencia

(Football news) Valencia are close to appointing AC Milan legend Gennaro Gattuso as their new head coach according to Fabrizio Romano. The final details are currently being confirmed and the deal will be made official soon. Gattuso, who was a tenacious midfielder himself with Milan, entered coaching in 2013 with Sion. Since then he has managed big clubs in Italy, with Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa, Milan Primavera, Milan and Napoli. He did not have a job last season but looks to take his coaching credentials to Spain.

Valencia had a dismal season as they finished ninth in La Liga and although they made it to the final of the Copa del Rey they were no match to Real Betis at La Cartuja.  Issues have been a plenty behind the scenes as there was some disagreement with coach Jose Bordalas and owner Peter Lim which seems to have taken its toll at Mestalla. Gattuso is entering a tough situation but he has experienced a similar situation when he managed AC Milan. Financial issues would mean that several high-profile players will exit Valencia this summer and it is going to be a challenge to build a competitive team with a low budget. It has been reported that he will sign with the Spanish club for the next two years with a 3 million contract plus bonuses per season. He is set to become the third Italian manager in the history of the club after Ranieri and Prandelli.

After almost a year of absence from football, Gennaro Gattuso returns to the bench and he will have do it in the La Liga with an ambitious owner like Peter Lim's Valencia who officially announced his farewell to Pepe Bordalas, who had a contract until 2023, and has decided to back the former Napoli manager and hopefully bring some stability in the club. The deal was led by Jorge Mendes as he negotiated a a two-year contract with a salary of 3 million plus bonuses for the eventual if they win La Liga or for qualification in the Champions League or in the Europa League. Gennaro Gattuso is known for his dogged, hard-working and fiery management style which he hopes to bring back to Valencia.
