David Ferrer’s contract has been extended by two years, and the Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) has confirmed that he will remain captain of Spain’s Davis Cup team for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. A choice that surely has the Spanish tennis community buzzing with anticipation!
Ferrer, who took over as captain at the end of 2023 following Sergi Bruguera’s tenure, was ecstatic about the journey ahead. “I approached it calmly,” Ferrer said with a modest smile, “and the first year was truly a learning experience.” I’m personally thrilled because I like being on the floor and seeing our teammates grow. Clearly showing off his pride, he remarked, “It’s an honor to lead a country with such talented tennis players.”
Ferrer continued, “I’m honored and ecstatic to be the captain of the Davis Cup team,” demonstrating his unwavering dedication. I think we stand a chance of winning the trophy, which is my goal for the players and the nation. The Federation’s continued trust in me for another two years makes me extremely happy. He painted an optimistic picture of the future for Spanish tennis fans with words full of resolve and hope.
The extension was announced by RFET President Miguel Díaz Román at the formal presentation of Spain’s Davis Cup qualification match against Denmark, which is set for September 12–14 in the charming town of Marbella. Marbella is the perfect location for such a significant occasion, and the atmosphere is electric with excitement.
“The Board of Directors made it apparent that David should remain the captain of the Davis Cup. “Very few people better capture the essence of this illustrious contest,” Díaz said confidently. Furthermore, he is one of the few people who knows the circuit well because he was a professional player until recently. As president of RFET, I am completely confident in his ability to lead. He went on, his remarks echoing with the promise of victories to come: “I’m sure many successes lie ahead with him at the helm.”
Ferrer’s solid relationships within the team were also praised by Díaz. “He keeps up great relationships with both coaches and players. The team environment is great, and we want it to remain that way,” he firmly stated. “As a federation, our top goal is to give the players the greatest setting possible so they can perform and feel free to give it their all. He sealed the decision with a stamp of approval that sent the room humming with approval. “Renewing Ferrer’s contract is part of that approach,” he said.
