Tennis news) Emma Raducanu will participate at the inaugural ATX Open in Austin Texas, featuring the likes of Danielle Collins, Sloane Stephens and Peyton Stearns. She will begin her campaign on February 27th at the Westwood Country Club and will hope to improve on her fitness after suffering an injury at the Auckland International, which may have played a role in her early exit in the opening Grand Slam of the event against Coco Gauff.
Raducanu sensationally won the 2021 US Open as a qualifier, becoming the youngest women’s major champion since Maria Sharapova since Wimbledon, who was 17 years old in 2004. After her victory, the British tennis star reached a career high Number 10 in the world ranking last year. However, she suffered a number of injury woes last year and was forced to pull out of the Billie Jean King Cup. 2017 US Open champion Stephens will also feature in the ATX Open and the event will also feature a 16 team doubles field.
“We are thrilled that Emma, the youngest Grand Slam champion in the game today, will be coming to the ATX Open,” said Christo Van Rensburg, DropShot Series Tournament Director. Open “We look forward to her joining Danielle, Sloane and Peyton for our inaugural tournament, and are very excited to know that we will be welcoming them to Austin in less than one month.” The event will be the first tournament in the United States during the WTA’s 50th anniversary season. Two sessions will take place, one in the morning and another in the evening for each of the first six days of the ATX Open from February 27th to March 5th.
