(Cricket News) Dean Elgar has asserted that ex-India captain Virat Kohli once spat on him during a Test series. Elgar revealed that this incident occurred in the first Test at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, part of South Africa’s tour of India in 2015. Despite India winning the first Test and eventually the series 3-0, Elgar expressed frustration about the playing conditions, describing the wickets as “jokes.”

Recalling the incident on the “Banter, with The Boys” podcast, Dean recounted the heated exchange with Kohli. “And I came into bat, and I was actually holding my own against (Ravichandran) Ashwin and (Ravindra Jadeja), and Kohli, he spat at me. I said to him if you do that, I’ll [use a South African profanity] you with this bat,” Elgar stated. When asked if Kohli understood the meaning of the word, Elgar affirmed, mentioning that AB de Villiers, a teammate of Kohli at RCB, had explained it to him.

Dean shared that de Villiers confronted Kohli about the incident, asking, “Why are you spitting at my teammate?” Two or three years later, during India’s tour of South Africa in 2017-18, Kohli approached Elgar to apologize. Elgar revealed, “Kohli pulled me aside and said, ‘listen, can we go and have a drink after the series, I want to apologize for my actions.’ So we drank till 3 in the morning. This is when he used to drink,” he concluded.

Dean recently retired from international cricket, with his final match played at Newlands in Cape Town, where he was asked to captain South Africa in the absence of Temba Bavuma. However, India won the second Test, leveling the series 1-1.
