(Football news) Borussia Dortmund snatched a brilliant 4-3 victory over Augsburg on Sunday, with striker Sebastien Haller making a substitute appearance for the first time since his cancer treatment. Augsburg played really well and managed to equalise three times before the American international Gio Reyna’s 78th minute shot gave the hosts a victory in their season restart.

Ivory Coast forward Haller came on as a second-half substitute for his first appearance after his successful surgeries and therapy for testicular cancer since July. Dortmund scored after 29 minutes with Jude Bellingham dribbling past three defenders after creating a little bit of space he needed with a brilliant move. It was the start of an entertaining final 15 minutes with Nico Schlotterbeck’s mistake leading to Augsburg’s equaliser with Arne Maier’s low shot in the 40th minute.

The Dortmund defender made amends for his error only two minutes later as he headed in from a free kick to put them back in the lead. Augsburg again levelled the scores with Ermedin Demirovic’s shot which got a wicked deflection off new Dortmund signing Julian Ryerson for the equaliser in first half stoppage time. Dortmund coach Edin Terzic brought on Haller and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to add more attacking impetus and it paid off as the young Englishman thundered in their third goal from outside the box in the 75th minute.

Dortmund’s defence again failed to hold on to the lead with substitute David Colina tapping in off the rebound after Kelvin Yeboah’s shot had bounced off the post. The visitors, however, couldn’t get a 4th equaliser as they had run out of ideas after Reyna’s shot in the 78th minute from inside the box to put Dortmund back in the driver’s seat. With this result Dortmund moved to 6th in the standings with 28 points.
