(Football news) Manchester City started the post World Cup period with a 3-2 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. Now the Citizens return to Premier League action as they take on Leeds United at Elland Road. After Newcastle’s 3-0 win over Leicester City, Manchester City are currently 3rd on the Premier League table. Their last match before the World Cup was a shocking 2-1 loss against Brentford at home. They have to bounce back and bounce back really quickly to keep up with league leaders Arsenal.

Kalvin Phillips is likely to not be available after Pep Guardiola said that he came back from the World Cup overweight. Ruben Dias will also be out with an injury while Julian Alvarez is unavailable after featuring in the World Cup final. As for Leeds, Tyler Adams is suspended while Stuart Dallas, Archie Gray and Luis Sinisterra are injured. Illan Meslier, Patrick Bamford, Crysencio Summerville, Rodrigo, Liam Cooper, Jack Harrison and Mateusz Klich are all doubts for the game.

Erling Haaland will be looking to continue the impressive start to his Manchester City career. He will be a massive problem for Leeds’ defence throughout the 90 minutes. Kevin De Bruyne’s early exit from the World Cup was a blessing for Manchester City as he is fresh and ready to do the business. Julian Alvarez was one of the best strikers at the World Cup and he will definitely be pushing for a starting spot when he returns. The likes of Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish will be looking to put in some good performances to make sure that they are ahead in the pecking order.
