(Football news) Chelsea defeated Bournemouth 2-0 at Stamford Bridge which was their first win in 6 Premier League games. Graham Potter’s side were well and truly struggling before the World Cup break but the new owners stuck with the English manager. The blues have started the 2nd part of the season in perfect fashion with a comfortable 2-0 win. Bournemouth now have won only 2 of their last 9 matches, both of which were against Everton. Chelsea started in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Mason Mount in his preferred number 10 position. Raheem Sterling started on the wing along with Christian Pulisic. Kai Havertz started up top ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Chelsea pinned down Bournemouth from the very first minute. Pulisic had his shirt pulled in the 12th minute but the referee didn’t deem it a foul and VAR decided not to intervene. Chelsea did eventually take the lead in the 16th minute after Havertz slotted home Sterling’s low driven cross. 8 minutes later Havertz set up Mount who doubled Chelsea’s lead. The hosts had 60% possession but couldn’t create a good enough opportunity to score the 3rd goal. Bournemouth on the other thand just couldn’t get past Chelsea’s backline and create a clear cut chance.

The result is a big one for Chelsea who travel to Nottingham Forest before hosting Manchester City. The match did give Potter a big headache as Reece James had to come off with an injury in the 53rd minute. He suffered a knee injury back in October and missed the next 9 games. He was racing against the clock to get to the World Cup and in the end couldn’t manage to make it to Qatar. Now in his first game back he has relapsed which is devastating news for both the player and the manager.
