(Football news) AC Milan are close to reaching a contract agreement with Daichi Kamada on a free transfer. The Serie A giants have met with his representatives but the player has not signed a contract with them as the small details are holding up the potential transfer. It is only a matter of when negotiations are finalised. The Japanese midfielder will have to wait until the DFB Pokal final before signing for the Champions League semi finalist.

The defending champions Europa League confirmed that Kamada will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season as he refused to extend his existing deal. Kamada has been a revelation this season and his availability sparked his interest from several clubs across Europe such as Benfica, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. He was linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund as both parties were close to an agreement but the Japanese international preferred a different challenge in Italy

The versatile midfielder will sign a five-year deal as he is set to earn around €3 million per season at the San Siro. The 26-year-old has been associated with Frankfurt ever since he came from Japan where played for Sagan Tosu in 2017. He spent his first season on loan at Belgian club Sint-Truidense before he established himself as a regular starter for the Bundesliga side, as he has racked up 178 appearances.

Kamada is a key part of Oliver Glasner’s side, he has contributed to 16 goals and seven assists in 46 appearances across all competitions this season which is subsequently his best return for the club. However, it was not enough for Frankfurt to get European qualification this season as they finished seventh in the Bundesliga standings as Bayer Leverkusen edged them out on goal difference. Kamada could still win a trophy with Die Alder when they face RB Leipzig in the German Cup final.
