Aghehowa Joins Porto from Atletico

Samu Aghehowa’s Atletico career has officially come to an end.  The midfielder had already joined Porto last season, and the Portuguese club has now completed the entire purchase of his rights.  Porto initially paid 15 million euros for 50% of Aghehowa’s rights despite the fact that he had never played for Atletico.  This year, they finalized the transaction by purchasing the remaining 35% for 12 million euros, in addition to the 5 million for an extra 15% paid before.  Overall, Porto has spent 32 million euros on the young youngster.

The first arrangement last summer valued half of the player’s rights at 15 million euros, with two additional 15% interests priced at 5 million euros each, payable over the next two seasons.  Porto made the first payment in May and has now settled the second 15% stake, plus the last 20%, for 7 million euros, completing the transaction.

Atletico originally signed Samu from Granada in September 2023, paying his 6 million euro release clause.  Back then, he went by his father surname, Omorodion.  He had just made his La Liga debut against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium in the first round, scoring.  Atletico moved quickly to sign him, however he spent the summer on loan at Alaves, where he had an impressive start to the season. Standing at 1.93 meters, Samu’s physical presence turned into goals, with eight in 35 appearances during the 2023-24 season.  He eventually lost his starting berth to fellow Atletico loanee Giuliano Simeone after returning from a major injury
