(Football news) After beating CD Arenteiro 3-1 in the Copa del Rey Round of 64, Atletico Madrid will face Real Oviedo in the Round of 16. Real Oviedo are currently 14th in the 2nd division of Spain. The Rojiblancos had to go play the Round of 64 having finished 3rd in the La Liga table last season. Before the World Cup break, Atleti were having a tough season.

They are currently 5th in the league table and are already out of the UEFA Champions League having finished 4th in their group. If Diego Simeone is going to deliver a trophy then the Copa del Rey is possibly his only hope. Atletico were eliminated in the Round of 16 last season and they haven’t won the Copa del Rey since 2013.

Real Madrid will begin their Copa del Rey campaign against 4th division side Cacereno. While Real Madrid have been stacking La Ligas and Champions Leagues in the past 10 years, Copa del Rey is one trophy which they have been missing. Los Blancos haven’t won it since 2014 which was also under Carlo Ancelotti and it is one they are desperate for.

Real were eliminated in the quarter finals last season after a disastrous outing against Athletic Club. Real Madrid have a lot of games coming in the La Liga, Champions League and the Club World Cup. Carlo Ancelotti needs to find a way to make sure that Real Madrid reach the later stages of the competition.

Barcelona have drawn 3rd division side CF Intercity in the Round of 32. The Copa del Rey is Barcelona’s favorite tournament as they have won it 31 times which is more than any other club. Last season however was a blip as they got knocked out of the Round of 16 by Athletic Club.

Despite getting knocked out of the Champions League group stage for the 2nd season in a row, Barcelona are top of La Liga and are having a good season. Barcelona’s problem last season was that they didn’t have enough depth but now they have enough players to cope up with the fixture constraint.
