Napoli Prioritizes Champions League Return While Holding Out Hope for Scudetto Title

Even if Napoli is only three points behind Serie A leaders Milan, the spirit of a title fight is still burning bright in the center of Naples.  The club’s top priority right now, according to manager Antonio Conte, is to qualify for the coveted Champions League, a goal that was not achieved the previous campaign.

Napoli had a dismal season last year, ending in 10th position, after winning their first Scudetto in 33 years during the 2022–23 season.  Conte was hired as a result, and since then, he has given the team new life and made them a real contender for the championship.  Conte has urged supporters to “continue dreaming” of another title, but first and foremost, they must secure their return to European football’s top league. The Scudetto race is fiercely contested with just six games left.

“Getting into the Champions League is our first objective.  Beyond that, we want to reach a prestigious goal that didn’t seem achievable at the beginning of the season,” Conte said at a press conference prior to their match against Monza on Saturday.

 He emphasized the community’s tenacity and enthusiasm while acknowledging the surprising accomplishments they had accomplished.  “We need to put all of our effort into fostering this goal.  There are still challenges to overcome, and the trip hasn’t been simple.  There is no place for excuses as we must continue to perform at our current level.

Despite the difficulties, Napoli’s away record has been concerning because they haven’t won on the road since January, going five games without a win, including four draws and a single loss to Como.  “Despite these indisputable facts, we are only three points behind Inter in the league, which puts us in second place.  With the exception of our most recent defeat in Como, we have kept up our undefeated record, despite the fact that wins have been hard to come by lately,” Conte said.

“Being consistent both at home and away has allowed us to accumulate enough points to be in our current position,” he continued.  Regular performance is crucial since it is the means by which we can accomplish the objectives that we have delineated.  We always hope to get back to winning ways on the road, even if we have struggled away.

 The football community will be closely watching Napoli as the season nears its end as they attempt to strike a balance between the crucial objective of winning the Champions League again and the dreams of winning another Scudetto.
