Jasprit Bumrah Convicted for ICC Code Violation in 1st Test against England

(Cricket News) Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was handed a demerit point after he was found guilty of violating level one of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test match between India and England in Hyderabad.

The infraction was related to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match)” and was Jasprit’s first in 24 months. Bumrah accepted the match referee Richie Richardson’s suggested sanction, thereby avoiding an official hearing.

Ollie Pope, who scored 196, was dissatisfied with Bumrah’s actions and took it to the on-field umpires when Bumrah deliberately stood in the way of a delivery that went through the off side and went for a run in the 81st over of England’s second innings.

Bumrah took six wickets in the match, including 4 for 41 in the second innings; he also brilliantly dismissed Ben Duckett and Joe Root in consecutive overs during the second dig.

Despite leading 190 runs in the first innings, India lost the first of five Test matches against England by a margin of 28 runs. The second Test is scheduled to begin in Visakhapatnam on February 2.
