Harry Brook pulls out of IPL 2024, citing personal reasons

(Cricket News) The English batter Harry Brook has pulled out of the Indian Premier League 2024 due to personal reasons. Brook was bought, in the auction by the Delhi Capitals for a sum of INR 4 crores and has now decided not to be a part of the league.

Brook’s absence from cricket is not only for the IPL, but he has not been a part of the England side for their tour to India as well. He was originally in the England test side for the series in India, but pulled out last minute. His absence was felt by the visitors as the English middle-order failed miserably in Indian conditions.

“The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space,” stated the ECB when Brook pulled out of the India series.

Brook due to his exceptional performances under ‘Bazball,’ gained a hefty sum of INR 13.25 crore in the 2023 IPL auction, where he was purchased by SRH. He however had a pretty ordinary season scoring just 190 runs at an average of 21 and was therefore released by his franchise ahead of this year’s auction.

Players withdrawing post the auction and on the last minute is not a very good sign for the franchises, as it completely disrupts their plans. English players specially have made it a trend of withdrawing just before the tournament. “Once players register for the auction, they should honour their commitment. Reneging on it is unprofessional, and the BCCI should address this,” voiced a franchise official.
