(Football news) Gareth Bale has officially retired from football at the age of just 33. The decision was expected ever since Wales got knocked out of the World Cup. The major factor in the decision is Bale’s fitness which is deteriorating. His ambition is also a factor as it is pretty clear that the Welsh wizard wasn’t that ambitious to succeed at club level. Even while choosing his new club last year he said that he needed to be fully fit for the World Cup which was his goal. He always wanted to do the best for Wales and right now Wales need to move on from him.

Bale came through the ranks of Southampton as a left back before he made a name for himself at Tottenham Hotspur. Bale burst onto the scene when he scored a hat-trick in the Champions League against Inter Milan at San Siro. After that he went on to become one of the best players in the World as he won PFA players’ player of the year twice in 3 years.

Consistent performances at Spurs earned him a world record move of £77 million to Real Madrid. At Real Madrid he went on to get immense success from the very first season. He won a record 5 Champions Leagues, 3 La Liga titles, 1 Copa Del Rey and 3 FIFA Club World Cup with Los Blancos.

He became a part of one of the best attacking trios in football history alongside Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo known as BBC (Bale, Benzema, Cristiano). Bale had some iconic moments in the Real Madrid shirt including 3 goals in Champions League finals and a goal in the Copa Del Rey final. His relationship with Madrid fans has been a rocky one but now that it’s in the past Madrid fans will definitely remember the good that he did for the club. Bale was a part of one of the best Real Madrid teams of all time and he had a significant impact despite his persistent injury problems.

Bale’s Wales career was nothing short of incredible. He led his country to a Euro 2016 semi final and Euro 2020 Round of 16. He also helped Wales qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1958. Bale has proven himself as the greatest Welsh player of all time and one of the greatest British players of all time. Bale’s career has been through its share of ups and downs but now that it has concluded it can be said that it has been immensely successful in every sense. It will be interesting to see whether the Welshman tries his hand in coaching.
