Women’s Champions League: Last season’s finalists Chelsea drawn with Wolfsburg, Juventus and Servette

(Football news) Club football’s most prestigious tournament, the Champions League is back with the men’s team playing this midweek while the women’s Champions League tournament is set to feature the group stages for the first time, having previously gone straight into the knockout stages. Just like the men’s format, the two top teams in each group will progress to the quarter-finals.

Last year’s finalists Chelsea will face Wolfsburg, Juventus and Servette in Group A in a challenging draw as Wolfsburg has reached five finals since 2013 but lost to Chelsea last year in the quarter-finals. The two sides will face each other for the fourth time in six seasons.

Group B features the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Breidablik, Real Madrid and Kharkiv. The Los Blancos are in their first season in the tournament under their current name and will look forward to progressing deep into the competition against the very best of Europe.

Group C will feature the current champions FC Barcelona Femení with the likes of Arsenal, Hoffenheim and Koge. With the Catalan club the overwhelming favourites to progress into the quarter-finals from the group, 2007 European Champions Arsenal will hope to accompany them in pursuit of Champions League glory.

Group D features Lyon, who won five Champions League titles in a row until last season, facing Bayern Munich, Hacken and Benfica. The French club will hope to go all the way in the Champions League this year and win back the prestigious trophy once again.

The Women’s Champions League is set to begin on 5th and 6th October and end on 15-16th December 2021.
