Atlético Madrid hit dramatic injury time winner while Karim Benzema’s hat-trick marks Real Madrid’s emotional return to Santiago Bernabeu

(Football news) Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid maintained their unbeaten record in the league in gameweek 4. Both teams are on 10 points while FC Barcelona are on 7 points with a game in hand. Atletico Madrid defeated Espanyol while Real Madrid got the better of Celta Vigo.

Atletico Madrid welcomed back Antoine Griezmann who started the game partnering Luis Suarez and Angel Correa up front. Despite that star studded Atletico attack, it was Espanyol who scored first. Former Real Madrid player Raul De Thomas leapt highest to head a corner kick into the goal.

Atletico didn't look up to speed which forced Diego Simeone to make some changes as he brought off both Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann. The substitutions worked as Yannick Carrasco fired in the equaliser in the 79th minute. The game looked to be heading towards a draw but the referee's decision to add 10 minutes of injury time cost Espanyol a point. Substitute Thomas Lemar scored the winner in the final minutes of the game. Atletico will need the same fighting spirit against Porto in the Champions League opener on Wednesday.

Real Madrid played at the Santiago Bernabeu after 560 days. Celta Vigo spoiled the party when Santi Mina took advantage of Reap Madrid's vulnerable defence to give his side the lead in the 4th minute. Karim Benzema equalised 20 minutes later with an exquisite bounce ball finish. Real Madrid once again made defensive errors as Franco Cervi scored in the 31st minute.

Real Madrid came into the second half with attacking intent and were rewarded instantly as Benzema scored his 2nd equaliser with a bullet header. The Frenchman then set up Vinicius Jr. for the 3rd goal. Debutant Eduardo Camavinga scored to make it 4-2 before Benzema scored a penalty to complete his hat-trick. Carlo Ancelotti will be looking to fix Real Madrid's leaky defense before their Champions League game against Inter Milan. David Alaba's return could be a major boost for Los Blancos.
