Premier League preview: A weekend of blockbuster clashes for domestic supremacy

(Football news) The Premier League is widely regarded as the most entertaining football club competition in the world and rightly so. Few countries can match the speed, entertainment, competitiveness, star power and money of England’s top flight and it is arguably the most attractive destination for any footballer to ply their trade in.

As the weekend approaches, so does Premier League action, and boy it’s a treat! The action could not begin on a more exciting note than Man City welcoming Arsenal at the Etihad stadium at 5 pm IST. The Premier League champions may have lost their opening fixture against Spurs, but scored five past Norwich and look to have found their rhythm. Pep Guardiola will be keen to see his side pick up all three points and move up in the League table and defend their crown.

Meanwhile, Arsenal could not have imagined a worst start for their domestic campaign. The Gunners have lost both their opening fixtures and are currently languishing in the relegation zone, only above Norwich City in 19th position with no points. Having already lost to Brentford and Chelsea, Arsenal are now facing another tough challenge in Manchester City and there is every possibility that the North London side would have lost three out of three games at the end of Match Week 3. Mikel Arteta will be desperate to not leave the Etihad stadium empty handed and it will be interesting to see how the two sides line up.

The fixture to look out for is undoubtedly Liverpool vs Chelsea. Both sides are on top of the Premier League table (only separated by goal difference), having scored the same number of goals in their opening two fixtures and kept two clean sheets. It will be an interesting battle between Chelsea’s new number 9 Romelu Lukaku and Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk and the final outcome is impossible to predict. Chelsea, being the European champions look even stronger this time around but Liverpool are always difficult to beat at Anfield. With crowds back in numbers, the Kop will make their voice heard and create an intimidating atmosphere for the Blues. Both teams are immensely strong and it should come as no surprise if the two are battling it out for the Premier League trophy in May.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United team will be travelling to the Molineux Stadium to face Wolves, looking to make amends after a disappointing result against Southampton. Jadon Sancho is expected to start and Raphael Varane should be playing a role, especially after how defensively vulnerable Lindelof and Maguire’s partnership looked last week. With Scott McTominay having undergone surgery for a groin injury and the Matic-Fred partnership looking porous, Solskjaer might finally turn to Donny Van De Beek. The former Ajax midfielder is desperate to prove himself and needs some game time. Manchester United will also hope that Edinson Cavani can play a role, with Martial have virtually no impact at St. Mary’s stadium and the Uruguayan is expected to be on the bench.

Other fixtures to look out for:

Norwich City vs Leicester City
