Coach Ferrero Backs Alcaraz’s Ibiza Break

After an incredible French Open triumph, Carlos Alcarez is traveling to Ibiza to relax, and his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, totally endorses the decision.  Ferrero was quick to encourage the 22-year-old to relax and unwind after a long day on the clay courts.

In a dramatic final at Roland Garros, world No. 2 Alcaraz looked on the verge of defeat after dropping the first two sets to Jannik Sinner.  However, he mounted an incredible comeback, overturning a break disadvantage in the third set and even saved two championship points in the fourth.  The match lasted five hours and 29 minutes and ended in a stunning 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) victory for the Spaniard.

Alcaraz’s spring on clay had already proven outstanding.  He won Masters championships in Monte Carlo and Rome and finished second at the ATP 500 event in Barcelona.  He made the finals of all four clay tournaments he attended, and defending his French Open title cemented his status as a new five-time Grand Slam champion.

Ferrero underlined that the Ibiza vacation is not just about partying.  “I told him to have a good time because he deserved it, but to remember that he is a tennis player,” Ferrero replied.  “We know how he is; these days are ideal for him; he’ll return refreshed and mentally alert.  It’s not only about partying; it’s about detaching from tennis and spending time with his pals like any other 22-year-old.  He will return to work motivated.”
