Arsenal win their first Women’s Champions League game of the season after scoring four past Hoffenheim

(Football news) Having lost 4-1 to FC Barcelona in their opening Champions League match, the Gunners returned to Europe’s elite club competition with vengeance with an emphatic victory over TSG Hoffenheim and are currently placed second in Group C behind the reigning champions of Europe.

Kim Little opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 21st minute when Beth Mead was fouled by Hoffenheim’s Michaela Specht inside the penalty box. Hoffenheim goalkeeper Martina Tufekovic dived the wrong way as Arsenal opened their account. The London based side were wasteful in the first half until a cross by Nobbs was headed into the path of Tobin Heath by Miedema and the 33 year old scored in the far corner towards the end of the first half.

Arsenal continued their momentum in the second half and scored their third of the night just seven minutes after play resumed through Vivianne Miedema who took advantage of the loose ball after a brilliant curling effort by Nobbs was tipped over by Tufekovic. Hoffenheim also had chances when Sarai Linder headed wide while Manuela Zinsberger saved Katharina Naschenweng's deflected shot as well as attempts from Jule Brand.

In the final few minutes of the game, Leah Williamson found the back of the net with a header which ended an impressive personal performance by the 24 year old on a high. The current Women’s Super League leaders will next face West Ham at home on November 6th followed by a visit to Danish side HB Koge in the next Champions League game.
