Arsenal set to play Brentford in the Premier League

With a victory over London rivals Brentford on Saturday evening, Arsenal might finish the weekend at the top of the Premier League table, depending on the result of Manchester City and Liverpool's noon match

(Football news) Two weekends prior, the Bees were easily defeated 3-0 by Liverpool, while Arsenal had put Burnley to the sword 3-1 before international football took precedence.

The three matches before the Bees’ journey to Liverpool’s Anfield stadium, when Alisson Becker was called upon a few times, had seen Burnley, Chelsea, and West Ham United fall victim to Brentford’s attacking dominance. Eventually, though, the visitors’ strength diminished.

Wataru Endo’s escape from a red card after snagging Christian Norgaard with his studs may have given head coach Thomas Frank cause for concern, but the final scoreline could have pleased the Dane little. Two spectacular finishes from Mohamed Salah and a stunning strike from Diogo Jota helped the Reds defeat the Bees convincingly, winning by three goals.

The West London team’s 4–4 tie with Manchester City sent the Bees down to 11th place in the standings due to their first loss of the month; nonetheless, they are still mathematically closer to the top four than the relegation zone.

Brentford’s mid-table mediocrity is defined by their record of four wins, four draws, and four losses from their first twelve games. However, their offensive prowess at the Gtech Community Stadium is unquestionable, as they look to score for the 20th consecutive Premier League home game this coming weekend.

In addition, since the beginning of the previous season, just three clubs have defeated the Bees at the Gtech in the top flight. Among those three was Arsenal, who will attempt to repeat their recent EFL Cup victory against their London rivals in order to potentially finish in first place.

Head coach Mikel Arteta was promptly questioned about a refereeing decision that went against his team, as was the case following the Gunners’ agonizing loss to Newcastle United earlier this month. The decision concerned whether Fabio Vieira’s horrific challenge on Burnley’s Josh Brownhill deserved a straight red card.

The Spaniard, however, refrained from calling the outcome a “disgrace” this time around and was all smiles after seeing Leandro Trossard, William Saliba, and Oleksandr Zinchenko deliver the goods in a 3-1 victory for his team. He even went so far as to commend the referees, if jokingly, for dismissing Vieira in the closing moments of the match.
