(Tennis news) After dropping the opening two games of his match against Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round, world number one Carlos Alcaraz rebounded by winning 18 of the subsequent 23 games. On his route to a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory, the 20-year-old hit 42 winners to his opponent’s 17 and converted seven of his 14 breakpoints.

Musetti had won three straight games and advanced to the second week in Paris without losing a set, so it was a tremendously outstanding performance. Alcaraz improved to 34-3 on the year and 10-2 at Roland Garros by defeating the Italian, levelling their head-to-head record at 1-1. This includes 24 victories in 26 matches on clay court this year, setting a bar for the competition.

Tsitsipas, the fifth-ranked player in the world, defeated Sebastian Ofner with ease as well. The Greek lost three games in the second set before bludgeoning Ofner in the third after winning the opening set 7-5.

24-year-old Tsitsipas increased his 2023 record to 31-8 and his Major clay court record to 22-6 by dropping service just once during the 1-hour 48-minute victory. With 27 winners and only 12 unforced errors in his match against Ofner, Tsitsipas displayed excellent play. Tsitsipas is currently three victories away from capturing his first Grand Slam trophy, but he still has a long way to go.

Head-to-Head

Alcaraz has triumphed in each of their four encounters. The Spaniard won their most recent encounter at the Barcelona Open final this year, winning in straight sets.

Predictions

Alcaraz and Tsitsipas are both eminent baseliners with comparable playing philosophies. Both are strong hitters who can attack from either flank and are swift players. Furthermore, both players often perform at their highest level on clay courts.

Alcaraz, though, has the advantage thanks to his exceptional athleticism, attitude, and propensity for hitting wins from almost impossible angles. The Spaniard has won seven titles and an astonishing 63 of his 76 matches on clay. Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has a 94-29 record and four championships to show for his prowess on the red dirt. But given that Alcaraz has consistently outplayed Tsitsipas in their conflict, another triumph for the Spaniard seems likely.
