AC Milan will play Atlanta in Coppa Italia

On Wednesday, AC Milan will host Atalanta BC at San Siro in a Coppa Italia quarterfinal
Milan

(Football news) The hosts are in excellent form going into this match, but they have suffered in the Coppa for many years, and La Dea is going for their first championship in 61 years. Milan defeated Cagliari 4-1 in the Coppa semifinal to cap off the best start of the new year. It was Milan’s fifth straight victory at home.

A 3-0 victory over Empoli on Sunday afternoon in Serie A maintained that excellent start to 2024 and keeps Stefano Pioli’s team in third place. Even with half of the season remaining, Milan managed to narrow the gap to nine points, still a significant margin behind their local rivals Inter Milan at the top of the league.

It’s strange that Milan, with their prominence throughout Europe and at home, has never been a formidable team in this competition.

They have only won one Coppa title in nearly fifty years, which was in 2003. However, they did not quite make it to the finals in 2016 and 2018, both times losing to Juventus.

Milan has defeated their next opponents at San Siro twice in a row after losing seven straight home games against Atalanta; a third victory will guarantee Milan’s place in the semi-finals.

But when the teams played in Serie A last month, Atalanta emerged victorious 3-2 thanks to a goal from Luis Muriel in the 95th minute, besieging the Rossoneri in dramatic fashion.
