(Cricket news) The WPL is up and running as it has already produced some incredible moments. In the first two games Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals put in outstanding performances to win their respective games against Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore comfortably. The 3rd game between UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants was an absolute cracker that went right down to the wire. The quality of cricket on display was really high and it is just the beginning. WPL has already grabbed the eyeballs of cricket lovers and now the only way is up.

The quality of established Indian players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma was on display at the WPL. The Indian skipper scored 65 off 30 balls against Gujarat Giants in classic Harmanpreet fashion. Shafali Verma scored 84 off 45 balls against a quality RCB bowling attack to lead her side to victory. Deepti Sharma also bowled incredibly well against Gujarat as she picked up 2/27. Kiran Navgire who has not had enough chances with the Indian team played a really good knock of 53 from 43 balls in a complicated yet successful run chase against Gujarat Giants.

Established international players Meg Lanning, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr proved their worth at the WPL. Lanning got 72 off 43 balls against RCB in partnership with Shafali Verma. Watching the two bat together was an incredible sight as they took the game away from RCB. West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews got 47 off 31 balls to kick start the tournament in incredible fashion. Grace Harris was definitely the player of the weekend as she smashed an unbeaten 59 off 36 balls. She won the game for UP Warriorz from a very difficult position with her power hitting. New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr scores 45* off 28 balls and picked up 2/12 in 2 overs to showcase her all-round brilliance.

Kim Garth who came in as a controversial replacement for Deandra Dottin didn’t play the first game. She did come into the side for the 2nd game and picked up 5/36 in 4 overs. Unfortunately her effort was not enough to secure her side the victory. USA’s Tara Norris picked up 5/29 in 4 overs to announce herself on the grand stage. The uncapped Indian who has put herself in the WPL limelight is Saika Ishaque. The left arm spinner picked up 4/11 in 3.1 overs thanks to some incredible bowling.
