World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro is set to manage Benevento

(Football news) Fabio Cannavaro is ready to return to action in Italy after he is set to get his first coaching job in Europe after reaching an agreement with Benevento to become their new head coach. The 49-year-old Italian has been out of work since last September when he left Chinese outfit Guangzhou Evergrande after a successful four-year spell. He averaged 2.06 points per match with the club and also guided them to a Chinese Super League title and a Chinese Super Cup.

As per Gianluca Di Marzio, Cannavaro is ready to return to Italy and his first task would be to bring the club back to Serie A after they got relegated last season. The 2006 World Cup winner signed his contract today and an official announcement is set to take place. The Campania side are currently 13th in the Serie B table after six games and their poor start to the season has been enough to see them replace Fabio Caserta with Cannavaro. Daniele De Rossi was another candidate who was heavily linked with the job but eventually his former Azzurri captain got the job.

Fabio Cannavaro is a legendary central defender who played for Juventus in Turin and Real Madrid but he was most famously known for heroics in the 2006. Now a different opportunity is waiting for the 2006 Ballon d’or winner. This will be Cannavaro's first time coaching in Europe as he will hope that all the experience he gained in China pays off. Cannavaro’s ultimate goal will surely be to manage a big Italian team in the future but he chose to prove himself at a smaller club before moving onto bigger future endeavors.
