(Football news) UEFA has confirmed that the Women’s Champions League final between Barcelona and Wolfsburg has sold out, with more than 34,000 tickets already taken for the match that will be held in Eindhoven’s PSV Stadium on June 3rd. It will be the first time since 2010 that all the tickets have been sold for a Women’s Champions League final and will also be the biggest crowd for a women’s game in the Netherlands. UEFA managing director of women’s football Nadine Kessler said it is “another sign that we have reached a new level.”

Wolfsburg defeated Arsenal in the semi-finals and will face favourites Barcelona, who overcame Chelsea. The Catalan giants won the Champions League in the 2020/21 season and will be participating in their fourth final in five seasons. Wolfsburg on the other had have won the competition twice in the past but not since the 2013/14 season. The two sides faced each other in the Women’s Champions League semi-finals last year in front of 91,648 fans at the Camp Nou.

There has been a steady increase in popularity in women’s football across the world with Sunday’s Women’s FA Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester United seeing 77,390 fans present at the stadium. In England, the Women’s Super League is also seeing an increased popularity, helped by the England Women’s team winning the European Championship last year and the Women’s Finalissima this year. They also won the Women’s Nations League this year and are now looking to win the World Cup under manager Sarina Wiegman.
